What's Happening!!Lesson Plans are kept up to date on Google Classroom. Check there first for anything that you might have missed. This site is for showing parents what is happening in our class.
10/22/18 - Go Fish for an Ion Lab - Students played an ionic version of Go Fish. Instead of asking for a pair, students had to ask for ions that would satisfy the ion in their hand with making a neutral compound. Students then had to evaluate the ions that made up their compounds based on number of protons, neutrons, and electrons that were in them (Forgot to take pics).
10/19/18 - Isotopes of Beadium Lab - Students had to determine different isotopes made up of beads, determine what color represented protons and neutrons, and calculate average atomic mass of their "Beadium" isotopes (Forgot to take pics).
10/9/18 - Mystery Canister Density Lab - Students had to figure out and calculate how to make one film canister float, one canister suspend in the water, and one canister sink.
10/5/18 - Elements, Compounds, & Mixtures Lab - Students had to figure out how to separate out mixtures into the individual elements and compounds that make them up.
10/4/18 - How to Separate a Mixture Inquiry Lab - Students were given a mixture that they then had to construct a way to separate the pieces and parts out as well as determine if the parts separated were elements, compounds, or mixtures.
10/2/18 - Materials ID Lab - Students had to classify items based on composition and have reasons to back up their reasoning.
10/2/18 - Nuts & Bolts Lab - Students examined nuts, bolts, and washers that were representing atoms and compounds. Students had to determine if the sample was modeling an element, compound, or mixture and how they knew that to be the case.
9/21/18 - Hands on Labs 922 Day - The students experimented with many different labs. We looked at eggs in vinegar and discussed the implications of our oceans becoming more acidic. We made elephant toothpaste just because it's fun. We constructed a lava lamp. We made Oobleck and discussed non-newtonian fluids and how they can be utilized in body armor and in filling in pot holes.
9/18/18 - Metric Conversion Lab - Students had to first correctly convert units to mL before they began the lab. Within the lab, students practiced correct measuring techniques and had to follow directions using correct lab equipment to successfully complete the lab. (Forgot to take pics)
9/7/18 Metric Olympics Lab - Students practice taking measurements accurately and correctly using sig figs to determine error and percent error based on their measurements. (Forgot to take pics)
8/30/18 - Scientific Method Gum Lab - Determining which type of gum blows the biggest bubble as well as which type of gum has more stretch.
8/28/18 - Bunsen Burner Lab - Use differing heights of heating water to determine the hottest point of a flame. (Forgot to take pics)
