What's Happening!!Lesson Plans are kept up to date on Google Classroom. Check there first for anything that you might have missed. This site is for showing parents what is happening in our class.
11/6/18 - Mr Skeleton Group Activity - Students had to work together to construct and properly label a skeleton. The first group to finish got a treat.
11/5/18 - No Bones About It Lab - Students measured femur length and looked at the relationship between femur length and height. They then looked at some calculated heights of people based on race and gender and had to determine which bones might belong to whom based on some bones that were randomly found in a "fake" construction site and match the bones up with certain missing persons reports. 10/24/18 - Burns & Wounds Lab - Students have done research about burns and wounds and in the lab today they had to recreate a wound based on certain parameters. They then had to be able to describe what layers of the skin would be affected and how the wound would be anticipated to heal.
10/18/18 - Skin Modeling Lab - Students used play-doh to model the different parts of skin. They had to complete a model of all the layers of the skin as well as a model of the layers within the epidermis.
10/15/18 - Fingerprinting Lab - Students got practice taking and analyzing fingerprints as well as lifting fingerprints. (Forgot to take pics).
10/12/18 - Sunscreen Lab - Students tested how well different sunscreens, oils, and lotions protect from UV rays by using slides, UV beads, and UV lights (Forgot to take pics)
10/1/18 - Epithelial Tissue Play-doh Modeling Activity - Students worked individually at first, but then got feedback from their peers in order to come up with a play-doh model of their type of epithelial tissue that they were assigned. Then the students had to tell information about their assigned tissue.
10/1/18 - Tissue Box Modeling Activity - Students had to model the 4 main types of tissues by using a tissue box and doing research.
9/27-9/28/17 - Histology Spoons (Glue) Game - Students played the game of spoons with playing cards that were pictures of tissue slides as well as locations, functions, and characteristics of tissues. When a student correctly matched up the picture, function, location, and characteristics of a particular tissue, they grabbed a "spoon" (glue stick) and the person without a gluestick got a letter towards spelling out TISSUES.
9/26/18 - Connective Tissue Lab - Students measured upper limb length compared to height to determine how that compares to the expected 40% relationship. They then did some research about Marfan syndrome and looked at some sample data to determine if people had Marfan syndrome or not. (Forgot to take pics)
9/24-9/25/18 - Histology ID Lab - Students looked at many different samples of tissues under a microscope to see and determine the many different characteristics that make up the different tissues. (Forgot to take pics)
9/6/18 - Find my Wound Game - Students played a game like battleship to see if they could guess the location of the wound on their partner. Through this game, the students worked on their knowledge of the terminology and got more familiar with anatomical terms.
9/5/18 - Body Organization Lab - Students worked with gummy bears as well as label body cavities and body regions on a life size human model. Through this lab, the students got more familiar with common anatomical terms that deal with body sections and regions.
8/31/18 - Homeostasis Lab - Students looked at how exercise affects homeostasis and the body's response to exercise. They then had to graph data and come to conclusions about what the body does to maintain homeostasis on a regular basis.
